Tierratech ultrasonic cleaning is a technology unique in its ability to remove contaminants like petrol, varnish, stubborn motor oil stains, sludge, tar etc. that other technologies cannot remove and in its ability to effectively clean areas that are not accessible using other methods.
Tierratech ultrasonic cleaning technology is able to penetrate and clean any surface that can be reached by a sound-conducting liquid. This means that blind holes, thread roots, parts with complex geometry like motorcycle carburettors and fuel injectors, minute surface contours, and a number of otherwise impossible cleaning tasks can be easily accomplished using Tierratech ultrasonic cleaning technology.
How does an ultrasonic cleaner work? Tierratech ultrasonic cleaning works through high frequency sound waves transmitted through liquid to scrub clean the surface of immersed parts. The high frequency sound waves, typically 40 kHz, agitate the liquid solution, and cause the cavitation of the solution molecules.
What is Cavitation?
Think of very small bubbles! Cavitation bubbles form when sonic energy creates a void (or cavity) which gets trapped as a bubble in a liquid solution. These microscopic bubbles implode with such force that contaminants adhering to surfaces are dislodged. Ultrasonic cleaning machines scrub surfaces clean through the implosions of millions of microscopic bubbles. Because the bubbles are microscopic they can reach the smallest of drillings, making the process ideal for cleaning complex parts!
A growing problem we encounter on a regular basis is the problems caused by the addition of ethanol to petrol. Ethanol is corrosive and can cause severe damage to fuel systems, especially those that are manufactured from aluminium alloys, for example motorcycle carbs, fuel taps, fuel pumps, fuel tanks, sender units etc. This will be made worse if the motorcycle, car, atv etc. is left stored for long periods.
The ethanol in the fuel tends to absorb water over time, causing the surrounding walls of the component to corrode and the remaining fuel to turn into a varnish or soft sludge. This combination of varnish and sludge will block, or partially block every orifice in the likes of a carburettor, and it is very hard, if not impossible, to clean properly by the usual methods. The chances of the engine running properly after a long lay-up are slim to none!
Ultrasonic cleaning is the only effective, safe and non-damaging method to clean this!
In this particular case we would submerge the affected part in the ultrasonic machine, in a hot specially selected solution, for a calculated period of time, depending on its condition. This would allow the solution to reach every orifice (down to a pinhole size) and return it to a spotless "as new" condition.
Cylinder heads, alternators, turbos, EGR valves etc. can be effectively cleaned by ultrasonic technology.
